Stand Alone Comments Page?
Thanks everyone for all your support pages re: textpattern. I like the format but I’m brand new to blogging and even newer to CSS. I wish there was some sort of super-basic “for dummies” page that would lay things out…like a glossary, for example. Some of the conceptual things are really hard to get a context for. Sometimes it feels like there are too many haystacks to try to search for information.
Still, in searching those haystacks I’ve come a long way in a week! Yay! Thanks so much for that. I’d be lost on my own.
My set up is very simple. (I can’t do anything fancy and I don’t want to risk mucking things up.) But one thing I would like to do is figure out how to create articles that don’t go directly to the main blog page. How do I separate an article from the mass and have it post to its own page? Specifically, I’d like to create a stand alone comment page (simpler than a forum, I’m thinking).
Thanks in advance. :)

There’s one in the FAQ.

Re: Stand Alone Comments Page?
Destry wrote a Textpattern Building Blocks primer, it helped me out in the beginning to understand the TxP way.
Also, download Simon’s Textpattern end user manual – mucho nice :)

Re: Stand Alone Comments Page?
Wonderful, thank you! I’ve seen the FAQ and Simon’s bit (really helpful, I love the panel pics) but Destry’s primer is new to me. I like it! I think I finally figured out sections! ‘Categories’ was easy, but I finally figured out how sections work!! So…the answer to my comment page question: Make a comments section and direct users there to leave comments on that page!
I have to say, one thing I really like about Textpattern is all the little question boxes next to items, so I can just click and get a hint and what that item does. If found most of the user panel stuff easy to figure out. It’s the “backend” mechanics that throw me. (And I have two programmers in the house to help me out.)
The Textpattern FAQ is also really helpful, but it does seem like I have to have a basic understanding before I can really understand it. It spells out a thing, but not how it works. I don’t now what <txp:article /> means. And what the heck is an if_not??? It feels like we jump right in. If I search on ‘glossary’ I don’t get anything. I’m used to HTML. CSS is a whole new experience. I spent six hours trying to figure out how to left align body text. I searched on every word I could think of. But this question was too basic, the places where it’s touched on it is not explained. (Eventually I just reloaded the default page and started over.)
I think some of it is that I just have to keep immersed in it and try different things until it gels. It’s an exciting program! And I’m looking forward to learning to use it well.
Thank you!!

Ric,
If you use Firefox, grab the Web Developer extension, it’s one of the best ways to get your head around CSS.
