Show comments radio buttons on write pg only if allowed on section pg?

I have an installation of Textpattern that uses comments only for one section.

On the Admin/Preferences page, I’ve set the option “On by default?” to “Yes.” (Maybe that’s the problem?)

Every time someone wants to add a new article, the “Yes” radio button for comments appears on the Write page (“yes” is selected automatically) even though only one section uses comments. That’s unnecessarily confusing for the writers and editors who don’t understand TXP very well.

I’d like to have a radio button in Presentation/Sections to allow or disallow comments for each section. Then on the Write page, only if that section is allowed to have comments, there would be a yes/no button.

Is there a way to do this now? Failing that, should I submit a feature request or mod request?

You can change the default behavior at Admin / Preferences / Basic > Comments > "On by default?". That way you have to enable comments for each article you want comments for. (while you are there, you might want disabling “Automatically append comments to articles?” too)

There’s no “comments per section” but you can show them only for one section. So it would seem like there’s somekind of restriction. Create an own form for sectionname_article with required title, body and comment tags. (or you can do it at default article too i think, might be easier that way)

I’d leave the comments on for all articles and display them only in one section. Writers don’t have to enable/disable comments then.

Thanks for your ideas, Anoke. I’m essentially doing those things. I was hoping to reduce confusion by only showing those radio buttons when the comments option has been enabled for that section. It sounds like this functionality is not available yet.
