textpattern support on yahoo web services

Hi all,

I’ve recently assumed responsibility for the website of my church, which is badly in need of some redesign and updating. I’ve looked into a lot of tools, and textpattern has caught my eye. Does anyone know if Yahoo web hosting supports textpattern natively? I really don’t want to switch my web host, if possible.

TIA

Does anyone have any recommendations for textpattern web hosts?

Re: textpattern support on yahoo web services

Thanks.

This is probably off-topic, but how exactly does switching webhosts work? I’m pretty technical, but I’ve never dealt with the details of how this is done within companies. We own the domain name, so I’m assuming that I’ll be able to keep all the email accounts associated with it. Is that correct?

I thought that I saw a post regarding trying out textpattern on dreamhost, do they allow that? I searched their site, but I have yet to find it.

Thanks again for the help.

That’s right. What you have to do is get setup with your new hosting account. Then you login to the guys that provide you with your domain (GoDaddy, whatever). When you get your new account, you’ll be given the new “DNS” servers, which will point your domain to where your site is moved to. You update them.

It usually takes 1-2 days to happen (for it to fully “propogate”). That’s why it is a good idea to keep your old account until your DNS is finished it’s magic, so that during that interim you won’t lose any email sent to you (I advise changing your email clients to your new settings, and using whatever “webmail” service your old host provides), and your site won’t go down completely.

To my knowledge Textpattern works just fine on Dreamhost, if that is what you’re asking. Can any Dreamhosters confirm?

Works fine for me; I run several sites on my dreamhost account.
