Re: aro_slideshow
Hi. I finally have the updated javascript for the slideshow. I thought I would put it up online while I work on the TXP plugin to see if it meets the needs of what everyone has been asking for. Also, to get a head start on debugging it – it will be easier creating the plugin is I know the script itself works. I guess the JS is about 90% of the work involved since the plugin just feeds the script images and captions. So, please take a look and post feedback if it is OK or if it is lacking something here or there…

Re: aro_slideshow
@rloaderro, this looks quite impressive.
Both, the new effects and the adaption to the v1 codebase must have taken quite some work.
For the moment I just checked out your demo, but I’ll sure try that out soon.
regards, marios

Re: aro_slideshow
Thanks for the kind words! I was very surprised by the response all around. I posted it in the #mootools channel on freenode.net and this is what one of the mootools developers had to say:
Inviz: rloaderro, may i say some suggestions on code?
rloaderro: please!
Inviz: 1) you dont have to $() new Element. it is by default extended
ibo: oh noes. you’ve opened up the flood gates
Inviz ;D
Inviz: 2) well, chaining functions is the thing of a taste, but I’d use them
Inviz: and in general i want to say the code is very good
Only 2 suggestions, so I was very happy ;)
BTW someone posted the script on DIGG. If you have an account please digg it! And tell your friends ;) Thanks again!!

Hi everyone,
i’m new to this forum and new to all the nice mootools…
i ‘ve already posted on the other forum, sorry now for dubble posting…

i love your slideshow a lot!!!!!
i think it is the best of web right now! congratulations! But, as i said before, i’m a newbie… trying out now for hours to configure the slideshow. without succes! :-( i just need a really easy thing: fading images with arrows to control them…
i ‘ve already tried to download the iframes of those nice examples to get the html code. no succes. :-(
could someone please help me out, maybe by writing down the whole html code + the needed css or a simple site in a zip!?

Re: aro_slideshow
@mako, for basic mootools usage, take a look at the documentation
(which is quite well done)

This forum is really only for specific questions having to do with the slideshow javascript in relation to the slideshow plugin for Textpattern (which I will hopefully finish this weekend). It is no fault of yours that you posted here, it was unclear on my website and I have since labeled things more clearly. I worry lot’s of questions about Javascript here will probably get me in trouble quickly ;)
In regard to your question – which I have answered already on the Mootools forum – please check out the updated docs on the website. If you are new to Javascript and Mootools I would recommend reading absolutely everything, as it is all important. You can also try asking questions during the week in #mootools on irc.freenode.net (chat). Probably live conversations with someone working with this for the first time will help me produce easier to read and more effective documentation.
You might also like to check out Textpattern CMS – with the plugin it will be easy to dynamically integrate Slideshow with image content on your website without having to muck with the javascript at all ;)

Re: aro_slideshow
first off, great app. love it. but i do have a problem. I have an ajax driven site andrewtodd.net. I’m using php to gen the javascript code for my photo albums. what I want the user to be able to do is view a slideshow for an album and be able to end the slideshow and start another one for another album. what happens now that I get two slideshows like “competing” for the same div element.
I hope I am making sense

hi Todd!
Try this. Call your first instance of the slideshow:
myShow = new Slideshow('the_div', {images: ['1.jpg','2.jpg','3.jpg', etc.. });
Then when you want to switch slideshows, just pass in a new set of images:
myShow.props.images = ['4.jpg','5.jpg','6.jpg', etc..];
And restart the show (or just wait until the next image change):
myShow.start();
You can do the same with any of the properties in slideshow – it’s exactly how I manage the examples on the site. Anyway, let me know if this works for you. Cheers…

Re: aro_slideshow
thanks for the solution. I had to change directories as well as changing images.
I’m still looking for a way to implicitly stop the slideshow. since I’m running an ajax site, when someone “closes” the slideshow they are actually setting the display attribute of the div to none. when they open another slideshow, it sets the div display to inline. so the slideshow is still running. ideally I’d like to be able to stop a slideshow and start a new one

Re: aro_slideshow

I just got the little username joke (I’m not a smart man [dioti] ). lol.
Anyway, I know I could probably hack up a txp category-based slideshow (via all kinds of asy_wondertag & wet_for_each_image machinations). But I’m wondering how the plugin side of this is coming along. I just want to pass an image category to the initialization script.
So, two questions:
- Any eta on the plugin
- if not soon, could you push me a little in the right direction on how to initialize based on TXP categories?
Thanks again. This is the nicest non-flash gallery I’ve seen to date.

This weekend for sure. I will try to copy the features/syntax of smd_slimbox, since that seems to be pretty developed, with a nice following, and of course uses mootools as well. Again sorry for the delay, but I promise to have it for next week!

bq. Again sorry for the delay, but I promise to have it for next week!
Are you kidding? It’s all gravy, thanks.
For those interested in a temporary hack to let you play around with this, you can use wet_for_each_image in the following way…
window.onload = function() {
myShow = new Slideshow('slideshow', {hu: '/images/', images: [<txp:wet_for_each_image category="your_category_here" >'{id}.jpg',</txp:wet_for_each_image>'some_image_number_here.jpg'], other_slideshow_attributres_here});
}
</script>
Then
- replace “your_category_here” with one of your image categories
- replace ‘some_image_number_here’ with any image number (so the list of images doesn’t end in a ‘,’
- delete “other_slideshow_attributres_here” or replace it with some slideshow attributes
- make sure you have a div with id=“slideshow” containing a placeholder image
Have fun! I did.
#make sure you are loading “slideshow” and “mootools” in your head
