Development and Production

I’ve started using TextPattern and is slowly moving my sites to TextPattern.

I have a development site with a textpattern installation on it:

dev.mysite.com/textpattern

my production also have a textpattern installation on it:

mysite.com/textpattern

My questions are now:

• This is the only solution, correct? Can I fx have only one tp installation?
• The two textpattern installations also needs to use to different databases, correct?

Not necessarily. During the setup process you can set a prefix for the textpattern tables. If one Textpattern installation uses txp1_ and the other uses txp2_, then both can happily live together in a single database.
