Re: gbp_permanent_links

Hi guys, sorry been busy lately and at the moment I’m unable to put in the time required to support this plugin while I’m at home.

Everyone feel free to contact me on AIM (graemebp) or MSN (graemebp@passport.com) or by email and I will be able help you quicker.

Riot are you sure textpattern is installed correctly – do you get 404 errors with my plugin disabled? If so it’s a problem with your .htaccess file. See the Txp FAQ

maniqui thanks. I’m working on the issue, this will be fixed soon.

mrdale yes it’s going to happen. But not until 1.0 is out – soon.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Can I use this plugin to simulate nested sections in the URL? I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this. What I would like is for my url to be: domain.com/section/section/ for landing pages.

For example, I have and “About Us” section and a “Contact Us” section, for certain reasons “Contact Us” needs to be a section and not a category or article, my “contact us” section would be in the about section and the landing page url for contact us would be: domain.com/about/contact/

Is this possible?

Currently no. But I’m looking it to supporting this in the future.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Hi graeme, the plugin looks very powerful, but I think I don’t get it completely (hope you will be adding the help-section soon).

The reason I want to use this plugin is because of the issue described in this thread

By default, textpattern has some “sections”, named ‘category’ and ‘author’. However, they always use the “default” page and I want to assign a specific page to them, so that only the home-url of the site uses the page configured as default.

Is this possible? If so, can you please tell me what rules I have to add to achieve this without breaking anything else?

Edit: Maybe it would make sense to have a preference to set the page/css for these extra categories without having to code rules.

Thanks a lot.

That would be fantastic, I’m looking forward to it.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Is it possible to redirect a static page (i.e, www.name.com/page.htm) to actually display the true txp-based home page (www.name.com/)?

Thanks!

Re: gbp_permanent_links

I don’t believe so, but for the time being you could just try using a rewriterule like this:

RewriteRule ^page\.htm index.php [L]

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Zanza, yes, this is possible.

  1. Create a rule with a single text component.
  2. And in the text field (labelled ‘Text’) use page.html or whatever.
  3. Under the destination, HTTP location setting, use http://www.name.com.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Thank you Graeme and Andrew.

  1. Graeme: Unluckily this doesn’t work. I tried, but the page.htm in the text field comes with a final ‘/’, and the redirection doesn’t work; maybe I’m doing something wrong? I followed your instructions.
  2. Andrew: Your suggestion may work on the .htaccess file, doesn’t it? I could use this method, but I would better use a plugin way to enable/disable the rule on necessity. Anyway, thanks, if plugin method doesn’t work I’ll use this.

Thanks

Re: gbp_permanent_links

There should be 2 textboxes appear when selecting a text component. The first is just the name on the component, which can be used for the plugins’ conditional tags. The second is for the actual contents of the component used in the URL

I imagine you’ve put the page.htm in the first box, when it should be in the second. It should also be shown in the rule preview.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Uhm… no, I correctly put page.htm in the second input box. In the preview, the problem is (I suppose) that the rule is shown as ‘page.htm/’, where I suppose it should be ‘page.htm’. I don’t know how I can get rid of the final slash, if this is the problem (i’m guessing…)

Re: gbp_permanent_links

The final slash shouldn’t make a difference.

If it still isn’t working could you send me some plugin debugging output.
