Journal Newspapers website
My first TXP effort and also my first try at a large website. Any feedback/suggestions appreciated.

Re: Journal Newspapers website
I like it, must of taken some time to design and put together with all the different content divs on each of the pages.
The only thing I notice is that it takes it’s time to deliver the page.
We Love TXP . TXP Themes . TXP Tags . TXP Planet . TXP Make

Re: Journal Newspapers website
It has been running slowly lately, though it may be an issue with the host as it has been acting normally most of the time.

Wow, that’s awesome. I love the breadth of content. Do the writers of the content actually input it, or is that job assigned to a specific someone?
You should really get clean urls working, though. That would be beautiful.

It’s a group of weekly newspapers. The print version is put to bed on Tuesday nights, and I spend Wednesday inputing the content for publication on Thursday. At this point only myself and the editor in chief input content. (I am a staff writer for the newspaper, currently doing the web stuff part time)

It would be nice. The first problem is that our web host doesn’t support mod_rewrite. Or at least I think so— I never made a big deal about it because I need messy URLs to make the site work. Each week, every newspaper posts a “Calendar of Events” and a “News in Brief” article. Since those articles have the same title as existing posts I had assumed that would present a problem with clean URLs.
I’ve taken solace in the fact that most newspaper URLs are far more ‘messy’ than ours.

Very impressive. It is vaguely similar of the site of the NY Times but with better readability.
Placing of the content (and the ads too) newspaperstyle is pretty amazing. I would love to take a look at your pages/forms because I can learn a thing or two here about structuring content.
Great job!

Nice grid; great typography; excellent use of white space. Very legible and well-organized.
Only suggestions might be the addition of some extra print styles for the home page ( it’s just a bit jumbled) and the footer might need some tweaking to carry your borders the full height. Also, “Extras” and “Services” in the menu could use a cursor declaration. Otherwise, I can’t find anything to nitpick about. ;)
Very impressive.

FYI, finally implemented Clean URLs for this site. Really pumped about it, such an improvement. Not everything has switched over yet though, since some pages and forms were tailored specifically to work with messy urls. Messy urls still pop up in places, but the most visited sections (the individual newspapers) are now clean.
