Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Lo,
this is kind of hackish tip for ideas – but I used an *cough* iframe in article sidebar once. I attached it via DOM hook and loaded other pages there for info etc. I even made it load image tab for a test but it was horrible.. Then again it kind of “worked” but was a pain to use.
(seems like this problem arises when there’s more than 15 users… same goes with files – but file/image permissions bug me more..)

I bet someone would build you all a plugin if you raised some cash? That seems to be the best way to see progress in many cases :)
I’ve only recently donated to txp and I’d be more than happy to ‘fuel’ development of said plugin. :-)
If anyone is interested, please, let me know.

Martin,
Great to hear :)
I think Bastian (Bas) or Patrick (Hak) would be good candidates. You can start a Plugin Request in the plugins/plugin request forums. I’ll chip in for that one if it looks promising :)

Count me in. My contribution is long over due.
I’ll get back to this tomorrow. On hour 14 today…brain is toast.

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
One thing that would be helpful in terms of developing something like this would be mockups or wireframes of what something like this could look like in the write tab.
Matthew and others did a great job pulling in samples from other systems over on Textbook but we still don’t have any real implementation ideas for TXP. Remember its more then just uploading the image file, you would need Category assignment, Description, Caption.

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Hakjoon,
Good call. I’ll try to work on some type of mockup.
I think the tricky part will be finding a way to incorporate it without over crowding the existing page. It’s not really a problem for me because I’m using “ied_hide_in_admin” to get the write tab down to the essentials. Sounds like it could be an issue for others though.

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Are popups allowed or does this has to happen all in sidebar? CSS layers perhaps? Is only image browsing and uploading wanted?
IMHO it would be enough to upload (+cat +descprition) an image and browse by author, category, date..

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Hmm. Hadn’t thought of a pop-up. Maybe similar to upm_img_popper?
I would be nice to have it all function in the sidebar if possible…but could be troublesome for uploading large images (300px wide or greater).

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
(i have one idea i sketchd out last year but haven’t got time to think if it is even possible, i’ll try finding the jpg..)
Images of various sizes are of course a problem, but if you have a long category list it can take lot of space aswell.. Popup window might be the ‘most forgiving’ solution.

Anoke.
Good point about the long category list. Pop-up does sound like a good solution.
Love to see the jpg you have if you can find it.

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Found this one: imagetools.png but there’s some things really wrong.. Like that “add to” thing – it is just horrible. I think I have a slightly better idea coming but that pic is cool enough for discussion now..

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Anoke,
I think we are on the same page for sure.
Have a look at this:
http://textbook.textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Img_Wizard
I don’t know if this idea is dead or just quietly being developed.
However…seems to address a lot of what I’m looking for (personally).
I’m currently running “hak_tinyMCE” which is great for adding images that are already uploaded, but still lacks the ability to upload images.
Hakjoon,
If you are still following this thread…I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this. I know there was talk some time ago of adding image upload abilities to hak_tinyMCE. Have you decided against that?

Only Bastian could tell.
A lot of the functionality it seems is already available in ebl_batchupload. All that’s missing are insert- and alignment options and a link to the pop-up from within the write tab instead of the images tab…

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
Hmm, are we talking about HTML or textile articles here? I’m a textile fanboy and didn’t even know one can browse images with hak_TinyMCE :O I don’t mind HTML-version but I’d like seeing textile flavour.. (and even so it isn’t very hard to make plugin output both tags..)
I think making that sidebar area is the simplest thing here.. And if one could use the ebl_bacthupload for uploading, the time consuming part would be coding image list (that’s not too hard) and testing.
btw, image editing / deleting is out of this plugin’s range right?
EDIT: imagetools2.png? (i’m not sorry about optical illusion.. :)

Re: image upload from write tab (for end users)
I’m open to making the image insert tool for hak_tinyMCE available without needing TinyMCE if there is interest in using it. It would require some rewriting but it’s doable I believe.
As far as including image uploading capabilities, it could be added, I’ve just been hesitant of the support implications.
