From local to web the easy way
I’ve built my site locally with about 100 articles and images and some 500 links.
I want to go live but not have to go go through the same process to build pages, content, etc…
Can I simply install textpattern on the web server and use phpMyAdmin to import the database?
Cheers,
Loz

That will work. You’ll have to upload the images and files, etc.

Re: From local to web the easy way
lozmatic,
I’ve done this on several occasions, I use XAMPP on my Windows laptop.
My steps:- Upload the directory I’ve been working with up to my web server.
- Edit the /textpattern/config.php on my web server with the new info, MySQL, Paths, etc.
- Chmod 777 /files, /images, /textpattern/tmp
- Sign on to the admin area of Textpattern and in Admin/Preferences, updates the paths.
Works everytime, the only thing to watch for is that XAMPP runs MySQL 5 and your server may be using MySQL 4.0, so use compatibilty modes in phpMyAdmin when exporting.

Yeah I try to keep stuff the same as much as possible between Dev and the live site. I setup symlinks to mimic the production paths so there’s even less to have to fix between the two :)
