Extraordinary font styling...
How da fuck does Shaun Inman and others, achieve that kind of kinky headlines? I mean, I can select the text, so it appears not to be an image replace technique…
Or is it just me being stupid – and them doing some really simple stuff? I know my CSS, but it does not look like standard system fonts, as the usual suspects; Arial, Helvetica etc…
Any help would be super;-)

Yes, they are both image replacement techniques (i think, the same technique in both sites).
Both rely on Javascript turned on.
I think the method they have useed is sifr

Re: Extraordinary font styling...
They are using sIFR to do it, and it is very easy to do. Do a google for sIFR and download it and give it a try. Granted, it relies on JavaScript and Flash to work, but the good part is that if the visitor does not have either of those, it will default back to the standard CSS styled headers and text.

Hmm, ok, but then I might as well use Zem’s image replace which achieves the same, with css… Or is the plain sIFR method better?

You hit the nail on the head there rav. Nothing beats the venerable zem_ir for lightweight, standards compliant, javascriptless, flashless custom type. I use it on my site without any problems. Don’t think it wraps though.

Re: Extraordinary font styling...
I think the one advantage of sFIR is the selectability like you pointed out.
The downside is you need to own flash to set the font. Well and it’s flash, I hate flash. (Although this is a great use of Flash)

It just so happens that you DO NOT need to own Flash to set the font, luckily, someone already thought of that so I shall give you Font Smack.

Well, I’m going for Zemji’s IR then;) It’s been a while since we last met – it’s gonna get hot;)
Thanks for the lowdown on sIFR;-)
