batch resize thumbnails, or batch recreate thumbnails

all my thumbs (about 400 images) are now 80 × 80 px but i want to resize them to 160 × 160. if there a way of doing this in batch? could i edit directly in phpmyadmin? my worry is that this will increase the size of the thumb (resulting in bad image quality), rather than create a new thumb from the full size.

I need someone to protect me from all the measures they take in order to protect me

Yes, that is what that would do.

A plugin could do this, but I don’t believe one exists.

You could download your images form your /images-folder through FTP, do a batch resize in Photoshop to create 160×160 thumbnails, rename them by adding a -t behind the number and re-upload them. I guess that should work…

Re: batch resize thumbnails, or batch recreate thumbnails

where in the tables is the size of the thumbs specified? in the images table it just says “thumbnail” with a 1 or 0 value. when i change the value of the thumbnail size, will this recreate all thumbnails to the new size?

Re: batch resize thumbnails, or batch recreate thumbnails

TXP does not store the Thumbnail dimensions. The built in thumbnail tags either run a getimagesize() to fetch the dimensions or don’t output the dimensions at all. So you could just recreate the thumbnail files and re-upload them.

For resizing and batch renaming, I highly recommend Xnview.

@hcgtv: I tried that program, but it won’t run on my Mac (OS X latest Tiger version). I double-click the icon, it starts to run but after two seconds, it closes itself. You didn’t have these problems?

Re: batch resize thumbnails, or batch recreate thumbnails

TNT,

I run 1.82.4 on Windows and have no problems. The version for Unix is 1.70 and it may have it’s issues, I don’t know, haven’t tried it. Pierre has promised to update the Unix port after 1.90 comes out for Windows, which should be tomorrow if RC3 proves to bug free.

That is excellent information – thanks for posting! :)

By the way, I use iview media on the Mac, work’s great for this sort of thing.
