[plugin] jk_sqlicious: Del.icio.us links to Textpattern via Mysqlicious

jk_sqlicious v0.2 download

Although there are a few great del.icio.us Textpattern plugins out there, most use RSS to display links. While adequate for many things, feeding links through RSS can be a bit slow. Enter Mysqlicious, a php script that imports links into a mysql database from delicious, and can be set to run on a cron job. This plugin, jk_sqlicious, taps into the functionality of Mysqlicious to display both links and tags in your delicious account. It is probably most useful for displaying larger numbers of sorted links.

While this plugin is distributed in an alpha release, it does have a few fairly advanced features including support for hierarchical categories, replacement of characters used in place of a blank space within tags, fairly clean HTML output as ordered and unordered lists, and display of links based on multiple tags.

A working example of the plugin can be found here. The site isn’t public yet, so proceed with caution. The links on this site are poached daily from here.

Usage of this plugin depends on a working installation of Mysqlicious, and a table of links, “delicious”, within your Textpattern database. Display of links uses a query string passed via the URL, and may break if you have other plugins running that alter the query string or do not use clean URLs.

If you find some use in this plugin, consider making a donation to our publishing project Fillip — donations will encourage development of this plugin beyond my own needs.

ok it seems that my host is currently not supporting curl. i’ve asked for it.
on another note, i guess this plugin would be a lot more attractive to the people if the mysqlicious part would already be integrated. i don’t know if this would be possible (licenses comes to mind etc) but i thought i’d just give you some feedback…

Yeah, integration would be nice, but I am not sure what I could do other then bundle the Mysqlicious script. Once the files are in place, its actually quite easy to get up and running. What kind of integration did you have in mind?

Re: [plugin] jk_sqlicious: Del.icio.us links to Textpattern via Mysqlicious

Hey jeff,
I’m interested in this functionality, but before I dive into it, I wanted to ask some general overview questions.

If I understand correctly, the way this would work is:
I post links to delicious
Periodically, my latest delicious links get posted into txp.
Is this correct?

And some questions:
Are the links posted into ONE post, or as individual posts? or can this be configured?
Can I choose the category/ies I want the links posted to? On a one-by one case (for each batch or each link, depending on how they’re posted) or for all of them?

Thanks!

Hey Kemie,

Thanks for your interest in the plugin! Yes, you post a link to delicious, and then when you mirror the links it is saved into your textpattern database. You can run the mirror script as often as you want, but once a day should work fine.

When you say “Posted”, do you mean to delicious or to textpattern? The links are outputted to textpattern in the manner you see fit. You can display links from a single tag or from all tags, as well as a list of all tags or a list of selected tags. Clicking individual tags then outputs a list of links with that tag..

Take a look at: http://amillionkeys.com/links for an idea of how it works.

Re: [plugin] jk_sqlicious: Del.icio.us links to Textpattern via Mysqlicious

Hey Jeff,
thanks so much for answering.
Hope I’m not being too pesky here, feel free to tell me to just install the darned thing and figure it out myself, I just would rather know if it’s what I’m looking for before I get started.

What I’d like to do is:
-Add links to delicious
-Every week, have them be automatically posted in my txp blog, under the news section, as “links of the week” The ideal would be to be able to have a list of links within one single post.
-Optionally, have them posted every day to the links section of my txp blog, as individual items.

I know I want a lot, not all of it is essential. Does this sound doable with your plugin?
