Searching for basic information

I am an absolute newcomer to Textpatteren – have installed it on my server – linked it to the database – all OK – BUT I seem to be missing something very basic – the ‘view site’ doesn’t work – just gives a ‘file not found’ error – I have specified that it should link to the directory ‘blog’ that contains all of the textpattern files – it works if I add “index.php” to the address.

Is there any information that is suited to a technically naive person on how to fix this?

I would also welcome basic information on how to set up the appearance of the site.
