Photoblog: A Thousand Words

With proud I present to you my photoblog: A Thousand Words. The intention is to post a photo everyday. I started January 1 2007 and so far I did post a photo everyday (good for me!).

I used a few plugins: rss_suparchive_menu and rss_unlimited_categories for the archive section, a combination of wet_for_each_image, upm_image and asy_wondertag (and Slimbox) for the gallery section. Behind the scenes I use stm_javascript, making it possible to create js-files like you make forms or pages.

Let me know what you think!

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

Cool site, very simple layout and design. I think that the navigation buttons could use just a little work. The blue on green is a little hard to read for me and they sort of “stick out” a little too much. Maybe build in a nice bar all the way across the top and “blend” the navigation in just a bit better?

All in all, great job on the site. You have some cool photos on there.

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

Thanks for your compliment.

I agree with your comment on the navigation buttons. I’m lost for ideas, though. I could make a simple horizontal list, but I’m guessing that’s too simple. Any suggestions? :-)

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

I’d go with a simple top navigation, menu options on the top left and previous/next on the top right of the picture.

Text links are fine, graphical buttons aren’t really needed and it would make it lighter.

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

I like the photoblog design, the name of the photoblog and the photos. Good work!

A detail: there would be nice to add a navigation between photos when you are in the individual photo context. Similar to the page navigation.

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

Yeah, a nicely styled text link navigation would be great, as it would keep with the simplicity of the site. Give it a shot and see if you like it better than the current buttons.

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

Thanks for the comments, guys! I’m working on a new navigation menu, so I’ll keep you posted.

@hcgtv: In an early phase of this design I tried that, but I didn’t like it. But I’ll try again and see if it turns out good looking. :-)

- Edit –

Well, it turns out good looking, but the <txp: newer> and <txp: older> tags supposed to go after the article tags. Any ideas how to get them on top of the photo?

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

I like the site, the photographs and the colors you use.

You can use <txp:article pgonly="1" /> before the older and newer tags to show them above the article.

Els, thanks for the compliment and for the tip about pgonly. Didn’t know that one. And it worked, too! :-)

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

@TNT, lovely. and well done.

I like the photography and the ducks, especially the ducks. ( charming )

Also good move to go with Christophe’s slimbox implementation. ( It’s the best moo extension code that I’ve seen. I’m working with it now to integrate it to a plugin, but I got stucked with the tooltips )

regards, marios

Re: Photoblog: A Thousand Words

Thanks, marios. I especially love the ducks too! :)

About the Slimbox integration: I think the solution using wet_for_each_image and upm_image is great. It gives you the opportunity to update the plugins and Slimbox separately. And I wonder if a plugin can offer this kind of flexibility. But you can surprise me! :-)
