AUTO REVIEW online

An online car mag on a low budget (erm, tight deadline that is): TXP comes to the rescue. What do you think?

Safari has a minor floating bug problem that it wasn’t worth pursuing. clear: both sorted more than half of it (not completely though).

Walker & marios
I’m looking for criticism & shortcomings mainly. What do you feel that it lacks?

Cheers, Gehard.

Re: AUTO REVIEW online

@gerhard,

I’m not entirely sure. It just looks good to me. Fonts and color scheme, etc.
There is though a couple of things.

  • Google add division will slide below content at small font sizes ( also will create a small gap at the sidebar )
  • An active state on the main nav would make it more pepper.
  • when the page loads, there is no background on the content, that’s very minor though

regards, marios

Yep, it’s the way the nav works. Since it’s display:block, it won’t shrink past a certain point but “jump” on the next line. Is this what you are seeing?

It is. All caps versus normal.

It’s just the way TCCB works. Since the borders are transparent, if I would set a solid background, it would defeat the purpose. Only if I set it in the CSS and then remove it when the borders load… Hmmm. We are getting somewhere here : ).

Cheers marios!

Re: AUTO REVIEW online

There seems to be a problem with Firefox (I’m using 2.0.0.1 on Win XP). The content in the header DIV appears over the top of the banner image and makes it very hard to read anything in it.

When viewed in IE the header DIV appears below the banner image with a white background.

Could you post a snapshot please?

Yes, for some reason, IE (both 6 and 7) render the page incorrectly when it first loads, but everything gets placed where it should if you reload or simply go to another page within the website. Strange, I know…

Re: AUTO REVIEW online

@stef25 Glad you like it! : ) Did you mean comments or reviews by cars?

A brand new design (for another website, obviously) is coming out in about 2 weeks time. No sneak preview before, sorry.

Re: AUTO REVIEW online

Here is an image of what I was seeing:

After some experimentation I found what the problem was. The addon NoScript (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/) for Firefox was causing the page to display incorrectly. The only way I could get the page to fully load was to allow scripts from google-analytics.com, and then everything loaded as it should.

I hope this helps.

Re: AUTO REVIEW online

Ross, thank you for your reply. Yes, disabling JS in any way will mess with the design. You highlighted why the design isn’t bulletproof and I will look into it when time permits. Thank you very much for your input, Gerhard.
