Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories
I’m having trouble getting the plugin to work. Total newbie here.
I’ve copied and pasted the text in and activated it and I still see two categories when I go to post.
People have seemed to have solved this problem by changing browser. I’ve been using Firefox and I deactivated it and reactivated it in Netscape and got the same result.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make it work?
Thanks

Are you running TXP 4.0.4? If so, are you getting any javascript errors on the Write tab?

I’m running 4.0.3… how would I upgrade to the latest version?
I don’t get any error, I just only have two pull down menus.

Download the latest version from Textpattern.com. If you upgrade, the plugin will work. Or you can make a code change to the plugin to have it work on 4.0.3.
Please read up this page as this was the same exact question I answered before you posted.

wilshire:
I posted a question on your site, but thought I would also throw it out to the textpattern community. I am using Rob’s great plug in on a current project. The visitor can select a catgeory from a drop down and then they see all the articles associated with that category in a nice table. Which is great, BUT
Now here is the twist:
What I want (sorta), is the admin side, but for the visitor. I want vistors to the site to be able to select multiple catgeories and see a list of all the articles that fit that criteria. Ideally I would only like them to to see “active” categories only.
Any and all assistance would be appreciated. I am researching the heck otu of this one because it is ultra important for the site I am developing.
Again, any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories
Okay so I installed the latest version of txp and on the write page all seems fine. However on the main blog page on each article the tags don’t show. They do show up when you click the link to the article however. I hope that I’m explaining this correctly.
Also the tags show up on the top of the page and when you click on them they don’t show the articles categorized under them.
Any idea why it’s doing this?
Thanks,
wbmsic

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your question. I got sidetracked with another project and stumbled upon this problem again today.
I think it is the plugin and not the browser that won’t let me remove the last category. I have tried it in both Firefox an IE and it does the same thing.
I de-select all the categories on the screen by clicking CTRL + click, hit save and it leaves the one category there. I can change the one category to something else, but I can’t get rid of the last category. I am using this to set a featured article on the homepage. I am using your plugin to set this “featured” category and am using the default TXP categories for my multiple categories. I need to be able to delete the “feature” category from an article.
Do you notice a similar problem when you try to delete the last category?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories
Hello,
I have realized that I’m having a problem with rss_unlimited_categories plugin. When I try to get the feeds of the site using url/rss
the permalinks in the XML file are wrong, they point to archive/title
despite I’m using the year/month/day/title
URL scheme. But if I use url/?rss=1
permalinks are right. I had posted this in the Troubleshouting forum:
http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=20658
Now, I have just checked that I deactivate this plugin, the problem dissapears.
I was using version 0.7 I have just updated to 0.7.1 with no success: the error is still there.
You can check my feeds at alcoyanoski.com.
Has anyone experimented this problem with the plugin?
Best regards and thank you in advance,

I think I see the problem. Please try downloading the new version (0.7.2) and that should fix it.

You’re right. I have just installed it and both Atom and RSS feeds are now working well with .../rss
and .../atom
.
Thank you very much for your fix, Rob!

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories
Dear Rob,
found a bug, better saying an uncaught condition, in yor latest version:
It affect this function (see at the bottom of the post)
function rss_unlimited_categories_filedunder($atts) { global $thisarticle; extract(lAtts(array( ‘section’ => ‘’, ‘linktosection’ => ‘article’, ‘parent’ => ‘’, ‘usemessy’ => 0, ‘listwraptag’ => ‘’, ‘break’ => ‘, ‘, ‘wraptag’ => ‘’, ‘label’ => ‘’, ‘labeltag’ => ‘’, ‘class’ => ‘’, ‘breakclass’ => ‘’, ‘sortdir’ => ‘asc’, ),$atts));
$sections=rssBuildSctSql($section); $parents = rssBuildParentCatSql($parent); $cats = array();
if ($parents) { //———————————————————————- added $rsc = getRows(“SELECT c.title, c.name FROM “.PFX.“textpattern_category as tc LEFT JOIN “.PFX.“txp_category as c ON tc.category_id = c.id WHERE article_id=”.$thisarticle[‘thisid’].$parents.” ORDER BY c.name “ .$sortdir); if ($rsc) { foreach ($rsc as $a=>$b) { $path = ($usemessy) ? hu.”?s=”.$linktosection.”&c=”.strtolower($b[‘name’]) : hu.$linktosection.”/”.strtolower($b[‘name’]); $cats[]=tag(htmlspecialchars($b[‘title’]),‘a’,’ href=”’.$path.’” title=”’.htmlspecialchars($b[‘title’]).’”’); } } }//end_if $parents —————————————————- addedreturn doTag(doLabel($label, $labeltag).doWrap($cats, $wraptag, $break, $class, $breakclass), $listwraptag).n; }
Explanation:
There is always the possibility to place this tag where $parents ges the the value null, when there is’n t a parent ! This causes an SQL-Error within the SELECT- Statement because …WHERE article_id=… gets
no value.
I fixed it with the added “if ($parents)” – condition you can see in the code above
