Hide file extension in file_download_name

I want to list the name of a file, but I don’t want the extension to show. I haven’t found any way to do this, but I know it’s certainly possible. This makes me really wish I knew the guts of Textpattern better than I do — it would be so easy if I knew how to grab the variable being used, or to pull the file name from the SQL, but as it is I’m at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

(As an aside: when I display the file description (and image descriptions as well), it’s displayed without Textile. Is there a plugin that will enable Textile for these?)

Re: Hide file extension in file_download_name

I really hate bumping posts, but these problems are still plaguing me. If anyone has some insight, I’d love to hear it.
