Move hosts

i created an sql dump and uploaded that to the new host. im able to login to newhost.com/textpattern/ and all the articles, sections and categories are there. under “admin > preferences” i changed the url of the site to newhost.com.

when i then go to “view site” it takes me to newhost.com but all i see there is “index of /” and a link to the textpattern folder. do i need to transfer the entire contents of the old server to the new one (lots of files and folders of which i dont know if they belong to txp)? afaik, txp only creates one index.php and pulls everything out of the db right?

what did i miss?

Re: Move hosts

You need to change the config.php file too, with the new paths.

Also make sure you adjust the file directory paths under advanced preferences.

Re: Move hosts

in config.php i i put the path to the txp installation, not the site root where i want the homepage right? i changed that to newdomain.com/textpattern/

under advanced prefs i only indicate the path to images, temp and uploads which is not needed to show the basic homepage right?

Easier to show you! Here is a config.php I have on one site:
$txpcfg[‘txpath’] = ‘/home/domain_name/public_html/textpattern’;

So yes, its the path to TXP. When moving sites, its easy to forget that the config paths may need adjusting.

Advanced prefs – yes, you are correct, the paths are set there, including the site URL, in your case, newdomain.com. Just be sure to check the paths to the “file directory path” is correct too – advanced > “file directory path”.

For your actual problem, it seems to me you might have forgotten to upload the .htacess file. With many FTP apps, hidden files such as .htaccess are not shown. There is a preference to show hidden files.

Try that and see what happens.

Re: Move hosts

fixed, thanks! i had to put the “full” url in config.php not just newdomain.com/textpattern. it had to start with /home/ etc as in your example.
