How do I reference a cropped image?

I’m a newbie but by browsing through the documentation, I couldn’t find a ready answer to this.

I uploaded an image and used a built-in resizing to make a thumbnail. Now, I would like to post the thumbnail in the article, not the original image. How can i reference the thumbnail from the text?
