[wiki] Tag Listing and New Tags In Dev Versions
I’ve taken some initiative here, so hopefully no one will be upset…
I think it’d be a good idea to have a separate page for these, and not list them along with the rest. It’s seriously confusing users, especially those new to Textpattern. The listing of tags and their attributes (including on the attribute cross-reference) should be for the latest stable version of Textpattern only. Having them on their own page will still allow for updating the WIKI easily, if not enable it more so.
I’ve created a new page, and I’ve also started on article and article_custom so show you how it works. Note how I’ve made use of the previously created “Genealogy” heading to show older/advanced users the changes they need to be aware of. I’m going through them as I can, but if you notice one I haven’t got to yet, please feel free to help.

Just one suggestion: I’d sort the “Genealogy” entries in reverse chronological order, along the usual habits of change logs.

Looks decent Mary.
What if each listed attribute would also link to the attribute cross-reference ?
Would that make sense ?

Well duh (—addressed to myself). Good point Robert. :)
That’s a pretty good idea too, Marios.

Textpattern is a relatively easy system to put up and start using, evidenced by the loyalty and accolades placed upon it on this and other forums. Yet, to master it, to fully understand it’s potential, takes a long time. Not because the underlying logic is hard, it’s just too many clicks away from realization.
Wikis are the best for writing documentation, but alas, it’s just another Text Book. Having to focus your attention away onto pages of information to find a tidbit, doesn’t work in today’s rapid learn as we go world. How and where we key in our knowledge is one thing, how we display it to the user, isn’t just Textpattern’s dilemma, it’s shared by all web interfaces.
That’s whad I think.

So… you are advocating that we ditch the wiki?

@hcgtv, you can access any tag’s main page or the attribute page with the blink of an eye using the TXP Bundle.
(Same for HTML tags). If there wouldn’t have been TextBook, the Bundle wouldn’t have been written.
@mary, looking great.

We need little questions marks, like in the Preferences screens, next to the Tag Builder listings. One click away from more in-depth information about the tag, a link to the TextBook page would be great.
Also, in the Tag Builder popup, the attribute in parenthesis next to the description, like Skip(offset).
Do I make sense?

One thing CMS Made simple does is have a link to community help which points to their wiki. Could definitely do that for the tag builders.
