Help! Category Musical Chairs...

I’ve been having a random issue where a category and its’ sub-categories show up in the Categories tab but not made available in the Write tab when I attempt to post an article. Also, sometimes the categories seem shuffled around in the Categories tab, with child categories not being associated with the proper parent. I’m not using any plugins to manage the categories and I’m pretty sure they all have different names but some of the Categories have the same titles, is this a problem?

I can’t figure out what triggers this behavour or how to prevent it. Thoughts anyone?

The same title isn’t a problem, only the same name would be.

It sounds maybe like something awry in your category database table. If you go to your diagnostics tab, and select “High”, do you get any errors/warnings/messages, particlularly about any of your db tables?
