Would ign_password_protect help me out? Need some advice.

Hi people!

I am creating a private community section of my existing Textpattern site, and need some help for the authorization part of things. I’m wondering if a tweak of ign_password_protect combined with a self_register plugin could do the trick?

Here’s the deal:

• Users (over 1.000) need to be able to register and gain access to the private section, if granted by admins,
• None of the section’s pages should be accessible unless you’re logged in,
• I need to be able to make a “one login solution”, so you don’t have to login both at the section’s own prompt and the forum’s — they need to share info (I’m prepared to do some extra work on this one).

So — am I off track here?
Do you guys have any advice?
