Associate file downloads to specific articles?

I’m pretty much trying to emulate the <txp:article_image /> but for “files” instead of “images” – is that doable?

I have a “projects” section where I want each article to link to a specific download while taking advantage of the “size of file” and “number of times downloaded” features within the article list…

Do I have to call the file by its ID within the body of the article? Or is there a better way?

The easiest way is to call the file id in the article body directly,

another solution is to use a custom_field to put the file id and in a form call the file tag using a tag in tag construction (explained here or using this plugin )

thanks for the links, this plug-in looks exactly like what I was looking to do – I can’t get it to work though for some reason. I explained what happens in the plug-in post itself.
