Default Page and Style

While working on a new template for my site, I came across an idea that could make our lives easier.

Since I was using the default template on the site, I wanted to create a new one rather than overriding the default page and style. So I gave it another name but every time I entered the Pages or Style tab, my cursor was sitting in the default’s textarea.

What I propose is to default to whatever Page or Style you select on the Sections tab for the Default in the Uses page: and Uses style: drop downs.

Re: Default Page and Style

you can always save the ‘default’ to something else (as a backup), and then use/edit the ‘default’.
As I understand, the concept for the ‘default’ template is: use this template for everything on the site, except when overridden for a specific page/section.

Re: Default Page and Style

That’s what I did, copied the old default and used the new default for the site.

If I follow both your thinking, then why even have?

Default
Uses page: ?
Uses style: ?

Since the above config fields exist, then why not use them to control our Pages and Styles editing session?

Edit: Would a plugin be able to do this?

That is a relatively new feature; also notice you can’t delete “default” either, regardless of that setting.
