Weird QuickTime problem. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
I’m trying to watch an mp4, that I’ve downloaded, in QuickTime. The audio sounds fine, but the video is screwy. Others have been able to watch the video just fine. I tried repairing the install, and uninstalling then re-installing. No difference.
I downloaded this QuickTime plugin for Windows Media Player, and opened it in WMP. The sound is fine, and the video is out of sync, but otherwise displays.
Now, why would that be? I want to get this working in QuickTime, because I think if I could get the video displaying at all, it’d probably be in sync or at least more so.
I tried playing it in QuickTime again, just out of curiosity, but it still acts the same.
I’m running the latest versions of QuickTime and Windows Media Player.

I’ve had similar problems before, usually for the first 5-10 seconds, but it clears up most of the time. I quit using Quicktime for VLC awhile ago though. I tried the first day in both players, and it appeared fine on stock quicktime and vlc installs.
Maybe there’s a quicktime preference somewhere, “Screw up videos: Yes | No” :P. Or qucktime is having a bad day.

Re: Weird QuickTime problem. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
I have downloaded the movie, partly, because I wanted to see what are the exportsettings. ( Just recently got Quicktime Pro)
The movie streams fine from mac os 10.4.8 , but it doesn’t open after downloading. (Movie can not be opened )
I tried to drag it also to I-Tunes, but nothing.
Is this at all normal ?
regards, marios

As JM said, give VLC a shot. Here the file works, btw, both in QT and VLC. Video is encoded using mpeg4, yuv420p.

Nope, just the free player.
I downloaded VLC and it plays the video perfectly. Very strange.

the movies both stream and open fine from here OS X.3.9 qtpro 7.1.3
@Mary
i’d give pro a shot (it’s cheap and very powerful). Unlocks a whole host of options not enabled in the free version
Re vlc.. it is very good too… maybe the movies were encoded in a software which is not 100% compatible with QT
by the way… They are all GREAT talks… Thanks for the link Mary…
