get category list to show only cats in current section - possible?

I thought that this_section argument in category_list tag would do it but that only affects how it’s linking to categories it seems, I want to have all the categories available in my blog section show up in the list on the blog section page, nothing else. I’m trying to avoid listing the category names because I would like the list to update itself if I add categories in my blog.

I want the same effect as section= for recent_articles but for categories… I realize the categories are not linked directly to specific sections in the admin, but isn’t it something that people would want to do pretty often? I’m thinking someone must have figure how to do this already…
