Article titles not displaying proper in IE

So I’ve come across the weirdest bug yet.

I’m using sFIR to replace my article titles with fonts in flash. No problem. Been using it on a site for about 6 months with no issue.

However, I just noticed that in internet explorer, article titles aren’t being rendered properly. What’s happening is that an “ ” is being added to the space between the last 2 sets of words and in flash, it’s being displayed as 1 word, not 2.

This is only happening in IE. When I view the source, the “ ” is showing up between words, but when I view the source in Firefox, nothing.

I’ve tried writing new titles and still nothing. I also checked phpmyadmin and the “ ” is not being added to the database. Only IE pulls this for some reason.

I recently moved servers, which is the only thing I can think of that would be causing this problem but the server is generally the same. Still linux, same main version of php and mysql. I’m sure there are some minor differences but nothing I can think of to make this happen.

Example site: dundasrotary.org

The headline on the front page “Welcome to the Rotary Club of Dundas” reads as “Welcome to the Rotary Club ofDundas” only in the flash because flash doesn’t understand that it’s meant to be a space, so it’s displaying it as one word. This happens on most headlines throughout the site.

Re: Article titles not displaying proper in IE

Txp 4.0.4 added a new “advanced preferences” setting, “Prevent widowed words in article titles?”. Switch if off, and the &nbsps are gone.

Re: Article titles not displaying proper in IE

Life saver. Thanks a lot. Glad it was a super simple and quick fix.

I had been using 4.0.4 for a while and never saw it, probably just didn’t pay attention or something, so I thought it was something to do with the server move.

Thanks again.
