Cookie problem on school network

Hi,

I recently set up a Textpattern site for a school History & Politics department so that they could make resources available to the department’s students.

While the site seems to be working fine on my computer and on staffs’ home computers, they are experiencing problems with accessing it on the school network (I think that the problems only affect the staff in upload files etc. in the control panel, rather than the students in using the site).

The school ICT department have had a look at the problem and recently sent, through the head of the History & Politics department, the following E-mail to me:

“We had a look at your website problem and ideally we need to have a chat to the guy that set up the web site.

The web site is giving cookie errors, but our security does allow cookies, so we think the error is masking something else. Is there anyway he can get in touch with us?”

The ICT department want me to contact them to help resolve the problem, but I do not have any idea about how Textpattern deals with cookies etc. or what may be causing the problem.

Can anyone give me any suggestions of what the problem may be or any suggestions that I can make to the ICT department?

I really need to contact the department within the next few days, but as I said, in respect of the technical side of Textpattern, I really don’t have any knowledge.

I’d ask for some more details on the “cookie error” they experience:

• what is the exact error message?
• what are they steps they take (clicking links/tabs etc.) to get this error?
• is it reproducible and does it always happen in the exact same place?
• if they can’t describe it very well, ask for a screenshot that shows the problem?

Once you have a detailed description of the problem, it’s probably easier to give suggestions on probable causes.
