"Change author" only shows authors with rights

Hello,

I just tried to change the author on a couple of articles and found that the author drop-down list only shows a small proportion of my users: only those with some rights (ie. not those with rights “none”).

The way my site works is that some authors (about 20%) post their own work, while the other 80% find it easier to email them to us so we post their articles for them, and then change the author. I’ve always used the excellent ajw_admin_workflow plugin for this, and that works a dream.

However today I posted a number of articles by the same author and thought I could save a few seconds with 4.0.4’s new built-in author changing option, as this can change the settings for a number of articles at the same time — only to find that the drop-down list just showed those authors who post their own work, and therefor none of the the ones I’ll ever need.

Of course I can still easily transfer articles to no rights users with ajw_admin_workflow, or I could grant all my current non-posting authors some basic rights even if they won’t use them.
But then what is the point of the user with no rights? Does this rights category exist only to hide the author from the change author drop down list?

That’s the way it is supposed to work. It’s used by some plugins, for things like visitor email subscription, etc.

OK – Then the new option is useless for me. I’ll ignore it and continue to use ajw_admin_workflow as I did in 4.0.3.

Thanks for your response!
