Life after 4.0.4

It’s been fun following SVN, testing things out on a daily basis and I’m kind of hooked at this point.

So I’m wondering what life will be like after 4.0.4 is released.

Is the Crockery branch going to be where all the new things will happen and 4.0.4 will only get addressed if a security or major bug is found?

What about patches sent to the dev list?

Inquiring TortoiseSVN users want to know :)

Re: Life after 4.0.4

Yeah, I finally learned how to use SVN with command line. Guess I could do more homework now :P.

The consious decision to move the main effort to crockery happened a while ago, the thing is that a release is still some time away, and we are of course still dedicated to maintaining the 4.0.x line. When it became clear that 4.0.4 needed to get out, we again temporarily shifted gears and try to do what is necessary to get out 4.0.4. But for the next few months you’ll still see both branches maintained in parallel. We will not (at least not yet) be confining updates to 4.0.x only to to major bugs and security updates. 4.0.x has become very mature and stable, I think it makes sense to keep maintaining it the way we’ve done in the past year until crockery has seen enough public testing and a stable release or two. At some point though, we’ll certainly shift it down to security fixes only.

As for new and exciting things (things that break backwards compatibility or add really new stuff) – yes, those are in and will continue to happen in crockery.

What about patches sent to the dev list?

What about them? ;) We appreciate it, if patches sent for 4.0.x are also ported to crockery by the same person (or at least that is done once, they’ve been accepted and merged to 4.0.x). We’ll be doing that otherwise. Patches for crockery are most likely not backported, except in special circumstances.

Ok, then I’ll continue checking out the 4.0 branch, updating my test site with it and reporting any oddities I may find.

I have a clearer picture now, thanks.

Sidenote: In the great tradition of random TXP versioning I am willing to bet Crockery will be released as TXP 9 :)

confused, now after the release and some posted bugfixes for 4.0.4
if wanting to keep up on eventual bugfixes for 4.0.4,
does it make sense to follow the dev timeline on changes or is there a danger to get up in mixed versions of crockery and the 4.0.4 release versions, when drawing new revisions from the timeline?
in other words:
1. are there separate timelines for crockery and 4.0.4 bugfixes?
2. will all necessary bugfixes appear on the weblog ?
