Permanent link mode Error Message

I think I may be going crazy. I have used 4.03 on numerous projects with another host without any issues. I am now attempting to use 4.04 with a new host (godaddy) and I am coming across issues I did not expect.

I have my Permanent link mode = section/id/title. Like I have used on all my other projects. The problem is that when I go to access the articles I get a page can not be found. If I add the “/” after the url the page then is displayed.

Any and all guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Permanent link mode Error Message

Any clues in your diagnostics? Is the 404 page generated by Textpattern, or the web server?

Zem:

Regarding the diagnostics: not that I can see … should I be looking some place in particular …

I think the error is being generated by the server … I have looked at the FAQ, but not sure if that is the direction I need to travel …

I would switch to the messy mode, but I then run into problems with category lists and other functions .. at least I think I do ….

Thanks.

Could you post what your diagnostics results are?

Re: Permanent link mode Error Message

The 404 page does appear to be generated by the web server. That usually indicates a .htaccess problem.

Should I go the route of the FAQ. I just have never messed with the htaccess file so I did not want to do it before checking …

Re: Permanent link mode Error Message

Also, you have some modified Textpattern files; those changes could be the cause.

Good point. I will revert back to the old files to see if that makes a difference.

If not, I will go the route of the htaccess file.

I modified the files to create pull downs for the custom menu and to expand the search into the custom fields.

I thought I was careful, but maybe not careful enough. I will let you know.

I reverted back to unalteretd files with no luck.

I altered the htaccess files, still with no success.

I called the Host and I was told that it is some issue on their side. I am expecting (hoping) it gets resolved today.

Thanks for all the assistance and I will let you know what the answer was.

I received this reply back from GODaddy:

**We have reviewed your hosting account and have deteremined that the error displayed is caused by a mod_rewrite code not allowed to interpret without the trailing “/”. Please make the necessary adjustments to your .htaccess file. **

I tried the FAQ with no success. Any additional guidnace would be greatly appreciated.

I have other hosts that I could and have uses, but thanks for the post …

the client is attached to GoDaddy for some reason. It seems like changing the htaccess file would do the trick, but unfortunately after several hours of searching still no luck …

help?

Re: Permanent link mode Error Message

Can you post the contents of your .htaccess file? And describe the variations you tried?

Re: Permanent link mode Error Message

Senser:

First I started with the original:

————————————————————————

#DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
#Options +FollowSymLinks
#RewriteBase /relative/web/path/

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^(.+) – [PT,L]

RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php
</IfModule>

#php_value register_globals 0

————————————————————————

NO LUCK.

From there I followed the suggestions in the FAQ. NO LUCK

I then found these posts on the internet:

http://forum.modrewrite.com/viewtopic.php?t=2218: This looked very promising, but I could not get it to configure with our htaccess file without getting error.

http://enarion.net/web/apache/htaccess/trailing-slash/ : This also looked promising, but I think needed a tweak or two beyond my knowledge) since when I tried I got many errors

http://mail.mems-exchange.org/durusmail/quixote-users/624/ : Tried some variations with no luck.

I am sure I tried other things since I gave up after about 4 hours out of frustration for a problem that seems so minor.

Any assitance you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks.
