Safe to upgrade to 4.0.4?
Hi there,
Considering the number of entries found in this subforum, I wonder whether it is really safe to go from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 on my main website (yes, I am still on 4.0.2!)?
Is it better to wait for new builds of 4.0.4?

4.0.4 has more new tags and is more secure, so you really should upgrade. If 4.0.2->4.0.4 doesn’t work, upgrade to 4.0.3 first, then 4.0.4.

I think 4.0.4 fixes far more problems than introducing new ones and there are workarounds/fixes for (most of) the know 4.0.4 problems.

By the way: is the normal action: if 4.0.2->4.0.4 doesn’t work, upgrade to 4.0.3 first, then 4.0.4.?
Or can I happily go for 4.0.2->4.0.4?

4.0.4 has update scripts that would first upgrade the database to 4.0.3 and then to 4.0.4, so that should be no different than doing this manually by actually installing the 4.0.3 version first.

In theory, you can upgrade from any Textpattern version to any later version. In practice, there are occasional problems jumping from very old Gamma releases. 4.0.x should work like magic.
