Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

My site is here: http://www.hollywoodlibertine.com

I just upgraded to 4.04. I get the new warning message about deprectated tags, but I cannot publish any changes to the presentation section. This was an issue before upgrading as well and I thought the upgrade might fix it.

Every time I am on the presentation page and hit “save” It just sends me to this url and none of the changes are saved:

http://www.hollywoodlibertine.com/textpattern/index.php

Any ideas? This is crucial obviously… I can’t tell if it is because of an rss/calender plugin I had someone install or not. Here is the rest of my presentation code. Any help much appreciated!!

I imagine I need to change this line to get rid of the warning, but I can’t save the page…

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Just a guess as I haven’t tried migrating my site to 4.0.4 yet but

<?php include(‘rss_menu.php’); ?>

I think should now be

<txp:php> include(‘rss_menu.php’); </txp:php>

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Yeah my problem is that when I hit save, it doesnt save the changes anymore…

It just goes to the /textpattern/index.php page and nothing gets saved…

Anyone?

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Are there any warning messages in your diagnostics?

Can you save a test page template containing just the words “hello world”?

If you go to the presentation tab and try to save, it will not work. Any help on this is much appreciated…

thanks,
chrys

Please don’t post passwords. This is a public forum.

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

I tried that but no I can’t seem to do that.

Let me know if you can login with that info to see the issue. That will be the fastest way to communicate the problem… It simply does not save when I hit save….

thanks,
chrys

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Is there any way to manually change the presentation code? At the very least I would like to rewrite the php block so the warning doesn’t show up on the top of the page.

thanks again for your time.

If there are no diagnostic warnings, and you can’t save any page templates at all, there’s almost certainly a problem with your server.

You could try temporarily removing your .htaccess file to see if it makes a difference. If not, talk to your hosting company’s tech support.

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Perhaps I am not saving a page template properly. I am certainly not a textpattern expert, just know enough to get by with a simple site.

Removing the .htaccess file has a highly negative effect on both the admin and the live side of things.

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

I can create articles fine, change the css and save fine… just not that one page… Any idea what server issue that might be related to?
thanks again…

what do you see there? Do you see something like the front-page of your blog? Or do you see a page from the admin-area (which one specifically)?

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

Ok, here is what is happening: Your webhost has something like mod_security running, which is blocking your try to save the page (mod_security and the like is based on crude heuristics and they think you are trying to hack into your site). Additionaly Error-pages on your host are wrongly configured, therefore the textpattern rewrite-rules (from .htaccess) kick in, and the front-page tries to handle the request as best as it can.

When Alex asked you to remove the .htaccess that was the reason why – to find out if that was the case. Deleting the .htaccess has absolutely zero effect on the functioning of the backend. However it will stop the textpattern’s public side from hiding the actual error message you are getting.

Removing the .htaccess file has a highly negative effect on both the admin and the live side of things.

That “highly negative” error message on the admin-side is probably the error message that was needed to diagnose this problem. There is an FAQ entry on that specific problem:

Re: Cannot publish changes made to the presentation section!

When I remove the .htaccess file and then try to save a change, I get this message:

Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /textpattern/index.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
————————————————————————————————————————
Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.hollywoodlibertine.com Port 80

I don’t get any error messages on the public side anymore. I will contact my host with your comments and see what they say…

thanks,
