Site installed in subdir on GoDaddy doesn't load images
I recently moved my web site www.chatteringmagpie.com to GoDaddy. Initially I made chatteringmagpie.com the primary hosted domain and successfully installed Textpattern in the root directory. Then I changed mind and decided to switch the primary domain to another domain I own, treith.com.
I added chatteringmagpie as an “aliased” domain on the hosting account and installed Textpattern in a subdirectory /chatteringmagpie. I have no problem with connecting the database.
Three problems:
1) It won’t load any images
2) When I have .htaccess in the site directory, I get 500 Internal Error Server. When I remove .htaccess, the site loads, although without images.
3) It won’t use clean URLs – messy URLs work just fine, but I prefer clean URLs. I know GoDaddy can use clean URLs because I’ve created other Textpattern sites on GoDaddy with clean URLs
I suspect a discrepancy between how GoDaddy handles aliased domains (theoretically you can have multiple web sites with a single hosted account) and the site URL in Textpattern.
But it might also be a problem with the directory permissions? When I type in the direct URL of an image into my browser, I get 500 Internal Error Server. CHMOD on images directory is set to 705, same as every other directory.
Strangely enough, even though I don’t have an .htaccess file installed in the subdirectory, Textpattern passes all diagnostic checks.

Re: Site installed in subdir on GoDaddy doesn't load images
[Tue Oct 17 22:03:38 2006] [alert] [client 75.32.31.165] /var/chroot/home/content/t/r/e/treith/html/chatteringmagpie/images/.htaccess: Invalid command ‘php_value’, perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
The error message is accurate enough: your ‘images’ subdir has a .htaccess file that contains something your server doesn’t like. Textpattern doesn’t ship with a htaccess in the images subdir.

Re: Site installed in subdir on GoDaddy doesn't load images
I remembered that I had a .htaccess in my images directory to prevent hotlinking images. Removed that and images show up just fine.
Now I have to get a good .htaccess file that works with GoDaddy so I can use clean URLs.Offline
