Peter
Yes, you need the localisation tags in the forms too – especially your article forms.
This plugin is being actively developed and v0.5 is really only experimental. As Graeme pointed out in the first post of the thread, this isn’t ready for live use, there are some bugs in the article edit code in v0.5 that have already been ironed out and a lot of new features have been added.
All
Some upcoming features (click on the image to get the full picture)…
…include allowing you to use the admin interface to provide for translations of plugin strings (note that the plugins have to adhere to a very simple string registration procedure to do this.) You can also export and import stringsets so that you can share your translations with one another. Perhaps Destry might be able to host a small “plugin translations” area in the textbook if this plugin becomes popular?

…allow “snippets” in pages and forms. Snippets are labelled aliases to strings which you can edit in the admin interface. This allows you to concentrate on structure/function in your page/form templates without needing to worry about localising strings there.

Things aren’t finished yet. I have searching working and feeds are almost there (except for the localisation of the title).
I’ll be working on the parallel editing of article translations for some of the time this week (whilst looking for a new place to rent — might not see too much development this week!)

Re: [archived] gbp_l10n - Multilingual Publishing
Steve,
Thanks for the answer, it’s good to see the new development is ongoing. However can I ask if there is a known issue with a second language. On my site is working fine between english and german but I also want spanish and this only shows me the english version despite the same articles, sections … being translated in the spanish and german screens. Anyclue where I should look to resolve this. Is the comma the right delimiter?

Peter, yes comma is the correct delimiter. I’m not sure what is causing your problem – have you tried without spaces?
The way the languages are defined has changed so I imagine your problem has likely been fixed already.

EUREKA, and important for everyone else who has a problem with more than one language.
In Preferences Languages do NOT use blanks, jsut a comma delimited list!!!
One of my problems resolved, THANKS
Now I am awaiting the release of the updates plugin with all it’s new funtionality.

Anything is possible. I’ve already tried giving some forethought to plugin translation efforts, whether documentation or otherwise, and I think what makes sense is how it’s currently setup…
Start by adding a given plugin to the Plugin Archive. That sets up a very informative row providing an archived version of the plugin, indicates Txp version compatibility, provides links to all the associated external sites (author’s site, forum thread, Txp Resources), as well as a dedicated documentation page in the wiki to be used however needed (see “docs” link in each row).
The immediate docs link destination would be an English page, and then translation efforts mimic that respective page, which is the norm for the wiki. The documentation itself would ideally be:
- Plugin documentation — The plugin authors first go (installation, use, need-to-knows, etc.)
- Docs extension — Community can expand/improve upon original doc copy
- Real examples of use (case studies) with links to live sites.
- and so forth
Translators can use their translated versions of the plugin docs pages for additional things such as code translations or whatever is needed. Sky’s the limit.

May I ask if development on this great plugin is still active?
Will there be a release in foreseeable future?
Or should I look for other solutions in the meanwhile?

Yes this plugin is still in development. But net-carver and I have not really discussed when to release it. We have both been really busy with other work recently – it has been hard to keep in contact.
I can’t give you a timescale but it shouldn’t be too long until we can let people test it. Be sure to subscribe to this thread and we’ll let everyone know when things get moving again.

Re: [archived] gbp_l10n - Multilingual Publishing
Apologies to all about the slow work on this. Both Graeme and I were working very hard on this but recent developments are slowing things down now. For myself, I just moved to a new new housing estate out here that isn’t connected to the telephone network yet — let alone has broadband access — so I don’t access the forum as much as before and my communication with Graeme is right down.
We will work out how to go about making this available and let you all know via this thread.

Thanks for the updates, guys. I’m sure you’ll be producing something quite amazing. Do what you need to do. I’ll patiently wait for it.
Steve, good luck with all of that house stuff.

Re: [archived] gbp_l10n - Multilingual Publishing
Does anyone have the “gbp_l10n_0.5.txt” file for me. I need it for rebuilding my site. The link on this page is dead….
