get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
seems like an article image doesn’t appear within the body as built for the rss/atom feeds
as the article image is (by its name) an integral part of an article, it probably should… I haven’t thought this through, just wanted to bring up the point

You can manually place the img tag in the excerpts and the image should appear in the feeds

It also depends on the newsreader you’re using. I’ve tried a few but only FeedDemon shows my article images.

Re: get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
maarten, my experience is with Thunderbird email client and with feeds run thru Feedburner for Planet installations – I didn’t know that some aggregators showed the article image, that’s interesting!
colak, you’re right – but with sites with multiple contributors, and where the focus is images, I found it easier to explain upm_img_popper and inserting multiple images as ‘article images’, rather than seeing tags in the body – the workaround might be necessary tho to get feeds populated

Re: get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
oh! even though i have not tried this yet (or emailed jacob to thank him) because i still have other issues to work on before tackling the feeds, here’s what could help:
To display images in feeds, I’ve hacked atom.php and rss.php. I’ve posted the relevant snippets of
my modified versions here: http://textsnippets.com/tags/photoblogging
i used to insert images tags into the article body myself but it’s just not viable(?) anymore for a photoblog i’m redoing.

Re: get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
One more thing, make sure you are using an absolute url to the image; the feed won’t validate and may not display the image if you use a relative path.

Re: get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
Is there a way to automatically insert every article image with the whole text entry in the atom/rss feed, without having to paste anything in the excerpt field ?

I’ve inserted the code snippets and changed the section name. It’s great, the images finally do show up!
But is there a way for both the article image and whole text entry to be included in the feed ?

Re: get an article image appearing in the rss/atom feeds?
Has anyone updated this code snippet for v.4.0.6? The instructions no longer make sense due to changes to the rss.php file.

Check out this thread it has a plugin that does this using the plugin system so no hacking is needed plus some followup to allow even more feed customization.
