Superscript without leading space?
Quick English typo question: when one write something like 1st, is it supposed to have a space between the two? In other words, is 1st correct, or 1 st is?
I believe it’s without space, but I’m unsure. If this is the case, the Textile carrets shortcut might be more useful without the need for a leading space to be activated. And that would be better for several languages including French, because they don’t allow space between the two :)

The 1^st^ one is correct. Using <notextile>1^st^</notextile> works – do you mean leading carret?

Re: Superscript without leading space?
I’m pretty sure without the space is correct, when it is supposed to be in the same word – i.e.: you would called it “1st” and not “1 st”. But, I believe the space is correct in other uses.

Yup I mean that jm.
I know Mary, what I mean is it would be nice if the <notextile>^^</notextile> shortcuts didn’t need a space before it to be recognized since some (most?) use of it would be needed without that space.

Re: Superscript without leading space?
Ah, so… <notextile><code>1 ^st^</code></notextile> works but <notextile><code>1^st^</code></notextile> does not. (I can confirm that on the latest dev revision.)

Re: Superscript without leading space?
Alex informed me that if you do the following, it will do what you want:
<notextile><code>1st</code></notextile>
The brackets won’t show up in the output:
it acts like whitespace as far as Textile syntax is concerned but the square brackets don’t show up in the output
I tested it in the latest dev revision and it works great. :)
(Don’t bother trying to use these examples at the forum – yet – we’re still using an outdated version of Textile, as I’m waiting for 4.0.4 to make sure we get the latest fixes. :) )

Re: Superscript without leading space?
Ok that’s nice to know and to have to.
But for the non-geek, non-Textile-specialist it’s a little hard on him. And he’s more prone to need to write 1st and the like (in many languages) than a whole superscript sentence.
