I can't create Categories with non-english characters
Hi,
I’ve created my blog, it’s in Japanese. The Japanese characters work everywhere, no problem. Posts, articles, headings… except I cannot create Categories with non-english characters. The form in the Admin, just doesn’t create anything. There’s no error or problem reported, the page just comes back with no Category created and I’m left wondering what happened.
Is there an intrinsic problem with Categories with non-English characters?
If I use standard english characters, the categories are created, no problems.

Re: I can't create Categories with non-english characters
First create a category with just us-ascii characters, then click the category and you can edit the category title and use Japanese characters there.
The reason why this doesn’t work if you use only Japanese characters when creating a category, is that textpattern first strips all non-us-ascii characters from the category (title) to get a valid category name which can be used in URLs. If the category (title) you enter contains no us-ascii characters, the category name would be empty and that is not a valid category name.
The category name is used in URLs, the category title can be used on the website itself.

The process of transliteration is also discussed here: http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=18495
