Image in TextPattern

After using TextPattern for the first time recently I’m quite happy.

On the down side, I think the interface (or lack of) for adding images is quite frankly, terrible.
It’s fine if you’re advanced and just want to use URL’s but the internal image tag process is terribly unintuitive.

Firstly, it would be entirely logical to include an image by simply copy/pasting the image tag from the Image section: [txp:article_image id=“3” /]

Funnily enough, that works. It’s funny because there’s actually nowhere in the FAQ where this simple example is given.
The FAQ is super confusing on this matter because it omits the obvious above and then describes a confusing two-step process where you have to put a number in an Advanced field and then a id-less tag in your form <txp:article_image/>. That this works is very odd – in the same way that I don’t want my car to start by the action of folding the seats back and pressing the horn twice. You always know something is wrong with a process when words like in the FAQ are attached “Don’t do X it won’t work”. If everybody is doing it, and it seems logical, why don’t you just make it work?

But the ultimate killer awfulness for me here is that the image doesn’t show in the Preview – even if you get it right! If you weren’t confused by the FAQ you certainly will be here. You have to go and view your site – in the absolute literal way – to confirm that your image has been included correctly.

SO, not wanting just to complain, my question is, are there any plugins or way to just have a button that says “Include Image…” and lets me browse the Image gallery to choose an image? In other words, I want my mother to be able to include an image in her blog.

• article_image is for use in article forms, not the article itself
• image and thumbnail are for use anywhere
• image-related plugins
