..including fixes for long-standing notextile problems, new extended block modifier syntax, and a new bc./bc.. code block modifier (pre/code).

The ‘..’ extended block syntax makes a block continue past blank lines, until the next explicit block modifier:

bq.. quoted text
more quote

still more quote

p. end quote, new graf

You can also use ‘..’ on other blocks to apply a class or style that “sticks”. For example:

p(foo). graf 1

graf 2

..is equivalent to:

p(foo). graf 1

p(foo). graf 2

Finally, notextile is available as a block modifier. Handy for javascript and php:

notextile. <script>
...
</script>

PS: when you’re testing a new version of Textile, remember that Textile is only applied when you save an article. Installing the new version won’t affect the content of old articles unless you edit and re-save them.

The easiest way to check for differences in output is to use the HTML and Preview views on content > write.

Try r1843. I removed the newlines between the pre and code tags, both on the opening and closing side.

Also 1844 adds support for “1×2×3×4..” and preserves whitespace around dimension glyphs.

Quick question, how do you align the bc.. with the rest of the article’s text?

When I use bc.. it’s flush against the content div, while all the rest of the content has some spacing on the left. I noticed this when using tables and I applied a style to tables so they would align.

Answered my own question:

There’s definitely a need for a single apostrophe: It's turns into It‘s using the de-de quote definitions, which is plain wrong typography.
HTML tags inside pre were escaped with prior versions of Textile, while the latest version produces unescaped tags. Thus, I would have to rewrite portions of my articles containing code samples to avoid them getting parsed. I’m not quite sure why one would like to have pre formatted text processed by the parser.
Lists in table cells are too complex: The list is left unclosed.

If that’s going to happen, I need lots of examples of apostrophe usage in various languages. Including unusual cases like:

the ’80s
rock ‘n roll
the patients’ names

and examples of how they are handled within single or double quotes if there are special rules: the "patients'" names?

de-* is simple: The apostrophe is a superscript 9, no matter if it’s preceding, embedded or trailing. The glyph for ommitted characters or word fragments:  ’ 

So it goes like this:

’80s
Rock ’n’ Roll (indicating the missing “a” and “d”)
Tom’s Diner
the patients’ names

I think so. At least, it looks ok on screen with various fonts. Under the precondition that we’re not talking about TeX here but just about web typography, it’ll be ok imho.

Additional argument: Even if one chooses to use alternate quoting characters (guillemets), the apostrophe has to stay the above mentioned character.

Yes, that’s right. Should be the same for all languages.
The main problem is that it is mistaken for a quotation mark at moment.
