redirection to target _blank
Have a question about redirection. On one of my pages I want to open a link in a new page using target=”_blank”. Is there a way in textile to do that? Here’s the code I would like to generate:

<a href=“http://www.website.com/link” target=”_blank”>http://www.website.com/link</a>
</code>
Have been looking but couldn’t find this anywhere.

Target blank is not xhtml 1.0 strict so textile does not support it.

I understand indeed but part of me has a hard time believing. The reason I’m using Textile is the idea of beauty and simplicity but if I have to use Javascript because of lack of functionality Im less inclined of using it.

P.P.S. Interesting is that while the article was written in 2003 all browsers today still support the target attribute.

And this. You can use the PR Block plugin to automatically add target and other attributes to links.

Textile is intended to be a “shorthand” if you will, for hand-entered (X)HTML, not a replacement. If you really want the target attribute, use (X)HTML:
<a href="http://www.website.com/link" target="_blank">http://www.website.com/link</a>That should work just fine, right alongside the Textile otherwise being used.
Interesting is that while the article was written in 2003 all browsers today still support the target attribute.
- Most people are still using the same browsers released years before 2003 (IE 5/5.5/6).
- Note colak’s statment: “Target blank is not xhtml 1.0 strict”. It’s being phased out of the spec entirely.

It’s still supported because target is a valid attribute in frameset DTDs.
