A nice, decent, ordered tag-cloud - possible?

I’ve been wanting to make tag cloud on my site. I’ve had a look at the three or so plugins that provide me with that functionality, and settled on “rss_unlimited_categories” by Wilshire.

However, tag clouds do not have to look nasty, and a nice, decent tag cloud can be seen here (look bottom right):

www.lifeclever.com

It is ordered by size, and even has brigther colours for the smaller, less used, categories.

But, how can I achieve that result?

Wilshire’s plugin does allow sorting, but that attribute (sortdir) apparantly does not work (asc or desc = same unordered result) and is not meant to do what I’m trying to do anyway, so… How do I go about it?

Had you come across <a href=“http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?pid=102875”>tru_tags</a> in your plugin search? Because it seems to easily be able to do what you want.

Re: A nice, decent, ordered tag-cloud - possible?

Hey Elenita

Yeah, I had read up on that one as well. Reason I decided to go with Wilshire’s plugin was because tru_tags directions for clean urls scared me off. And rightly so, because now you recommended it to me I’ve given it a shot, and it works to some degree:

It does what I asked. However, only with messy urls. The clean urls feature gives me an empty page when I click on a tag. And, in messy urls I can see that by default it lists the full articles, not the excerpts, as otherwise my site is setup to do.

But all in all it seems to ba able to do what I want in a good fashion, just needs some deboogiewoogie (debugging) on my part… If you have any help, I’m all ears;-)

Re: A nice, decent, ordered tag-cloud - possible?

I should probably clarify that I don’t use the plugin in question. I played with it when it first came out, but I don’t really have a use for tags on my site.

I’m guessing that you’ve seen <a href=“http://www.truist.com/reference/497/trutags-usage-instructions”>these instructions</a> (specifically step 7) before? If not, I’d start there. Otherwise, ask in the plugin thread?

Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

Re: A nice, decent, ordered tag-cloud - possible?

Oh yes, of course I’ve read the docs;-) Several times actually. And the plugin topic.

PS: This topic was not initially created to discuss one particular plugin, but since it ended in the direction of tru_tags, I decided to post some questions in that plugins topic elsewhere on this forum, instead.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think in the long run it’s better suited for me than my initial pick (rss_unltd…)
