Parenthesis nesting renders trash

Textile is … An inhumane garbage generator, in this special case:

Textile input:

p. Lorem
<txp:foo bar="1" baz="2" />
p. (Ipsum "dolor(sit amet)":#)

(Entities #8220 and #8221 above should be just normal quotes)
Expected HTML:

bc..<p>Lorem</p>
<txp:foo bar=“1” baz=“2” />
<p>(Ipsum <a href=”#” title=“sit amet”>dolor</a>)</p>

Generated HTML:

<p>Lorem</p>
<txp:foo bar="1" baz="2<a href="#" title="Ipsum &quot;dolor(sit amet"> />
 <p>p.</a>)</p>

Probably caused by the parenthesis surrounding the final paragraph in combination with the inner parenthesis aiming for a title="sit amet"....

If anyone could stretch the limits of Textile, it would have to be you.

The crazy part is that you probably have enough skills to write your own version of Textile… you could call it Wetstyle and open up wetism.com as the home page. :D

Re: Parenthesis nesting renders trash

Please remember that Textile is not supposed to be the be-all, end-all. It’s supposed to be for basic formating, for people that don’t know html, or don’t require all it’s capabilities.

That said, I’ve no idea whether this situation would be accounted for, one way or another. It’s usually Alex (perhaps also Sencer?) that updates it, but he’s away for a bit (moving).

Re: Parenthesis nesting renders trash

Oh, that’s thoroughly understood. I am just reporting, not complaining at all. It’s just because I really love Textile and prefer it thoroughly over HTML (not that I wasn’t able to write it…). If I ever get the grips of regexp beyond simple subexpression tagging, I hope to live up to Ace of Dubs assumptions. This time ain’t yet.
