[request] Form Builder : based off of zem_reborn?

Their are often times when I’d like to be able to create a form
or have someone I build a site for, create a form on their own.

I’m not sure quite what this would take, and it may be rediculous,
but I felt like a form builder similar, but more lightweight than
wufoo or Form Builder would be really helpful.

I could pledge about $50 US to this, but I imagine its worth more
than that, and would love to drum up some support.

I foresee it using the Zem_Contact_reborn code base, but allowing
for a user interface for building a form.

Re: [request] Form Builder : based off of zem_reborn?

Would you want it to save out the html form or a zem_contact_reborn form? How much flexibility in field placement would you anticipate being needed? Would it need support for conditionals, pre-defined fields?

btw, did you get my email on removing the breaks?

Patrick,
I did not see that you had posted here. Good to see you around.
Yep, got your email :) funny about reading, you have to do it, before you understand something.

For this plugin, I imagine being able to select from a list of possible fields: ie:
  • email
  • text
  • radio button
  • check box
  • etc
Then a series of preferences to fill out for that field
  • required
  • label
  • max or min
  • name
  • etc

Things like class might be a pref
that had a default set by admin?

Then two buttons:
  1. save and publish
  2. save and add another

Something like that.
I don’t expect it to be too fancy really,
just something with some basics.

Not unlike the tag builder that TXP curently uses in the Page
area of the admin.

Can you give me an example of a conditional and a pre-defined field?

Marios and slabanosa,
Glad you think its a good idea.
Do you have some mula bula to back that
up? :)

Predefined would be something like a list of countries or states something like that. Conditionals would be like show this field if field A is checked.

The predefined I think could be done in a way that libraries could be built for it which could be nice. Conditionals can be kind of a pain.

I wrote a form builder while I was at UVa so I have some experience writing something like this, unfortunately it was for Coldfusion but it was fairly backend independent. I kind of wanted to re-write it a little cleaner using some newer libraries so this could be fun. I just have to check some compatibility things because we based it all around XML to represent the forms and I need to check for safari compatibility (we only worried about IE and Mozilla)

ahhh, cool
I think folks would be up to seeing whatever you come up with Patrick.
Conditionals would be nice, but I think that there are probably ways to
work around it?

dunno?

Let me know what else you need to start thinking more about this/ doing it :)

Re: [request] Form Builder : based off of zem_reborn?

Just FYI: Bannister is essentially a form processing framework, based on similar ideas to zem_contact. It doesn’t have a form builder UI, but it serves the same basic purpose (separating form and function).

Re: [request] Form Builder : based off of zem_reborn?

Alex,
Good to know. For a non-coder, that means to me that someone who knew some XHTML / CSS / JS could throw together a form builder?
Is that correct? Or would this be the work of a PHP coder? Excited to see that. Thanks man.
