A music awards site

Hi

I want to create a site around the MTV awards.

(What I think) I’d like is an ARTICLE on each act, a SECTION for each award, and a CATAGORY for each year.

My initial thoughts were that I could then have the ‘Best Video’ award page showing the different acts (ARTICLE excerts) for the previous years (CATAGORY’s). I could then click on the Act name and go to their Biography page (main ARTICLE)

Firstly, can someone tell me if I’m heading in the right idea with this? Second, as there are only two CATAGORIES per ARTICLE I’ll only be able to go back to 2004.

So if my idea above is correct (I’m more than happy to be shot down in flames about it, but please give me your better suggestion), how do I get more CATAGORIES per article?

Any ideas on the above greatly appreciated!

Re: A music awards site

(I’m not much into MTV awards, so excuse my possibly dumb questions.)

What you have to think about in advance is:

1. can one act have more than one award? (in that case, you can’t use sections for awards)
2. can one act have an award in more than one year? (if not, you won’t need more than one category; if so, and if there can even be more than two years, you could use custom fields for the year)

Re: A music awards site

Hello Els

One act could possibly have more than one award, so that puts a spanner in the works!!
And yes, one act can have an award in more than one year, so custom fields would take care of that? 10 years is probably enough, but can you add more custom fields if you need to?

Thanks for your help

Re: A music awards site

So, in theory you could have combinations like this?

Act 1
  - award 1 in year 2004
  - award 2 in year 2005

Act 2
  - award 2 in years 2003 and 2005

Act 3
  - awards 1 and 2 in year 2004

Let me think a bit more about this…

Re: A music awards site

How many awards are there? More than 10?

Re: A music awards site

Yes, there is more than ten awards. I can’t get onto the MTV site to double check at the moment, but the Brit Awards gave 16 away last year.

Re: A music awards site

I think it’s a great idea, just be weary of copyright infringements for things like logos etc.

regards.

Thanks for the advice oldcodger, I’m being careful not to use any ‘official’ logo’s and other images just in case.

Els did you manage to give this any more thought? I’d be very interested to hear any ideas you have.

Re: A music awards site

I’m sorry Charlie, I haven’t forgotten but have been quite busy lately. I’ll try to think it over again this weekend. Where I don’t seem to get any further is that you have to be able to assign multiple awards and multiple years to an article (act) and also record relations between those years and awards. In my eyes you’d need a separate database to do that :(

Hopefully others will jump in with a simple solution that will make me feel so embarrassed that I’ll never answer a question here again ;)
