Several TextPatterns on different subdomains - Best approach?

I have a website with subdomains for 3 different languages (en.example.com, se.example.com and fi.example.com). Each of the subdomains is 100% identical except the language.

Now, there should be a “news” page on each subdomain—a TextPattern-powered one. Just these news pages should have a CMS, not the whole website.

Is there any reason for installing different instances of TextPattern for each language? If yes, can I use the same database with different prefixes?

I wouldn’t want to have TextPattern run the whole website, just the news pages.

What would be the best approach in this kind of situation? How to sort it out simply?

How about having three sections (en, se, fi) within one install using clean urls with a site.com/section/article format ?

en.example.com would then redirect to example.com/en, and so on.

So the best approach here would be to have a one instance of TextPattern run the whole website? Not just the pages requiring the CMS but the “static” ones also?

I guess I’ll go with that one… the client told me that subdomains can go.

But would that mean dozens and dozens of sections? We have many pages on the website, is there any easier and less messy option?

There may be ways to run more than one site with a Textpattern install but in your case, I would make it 3 different installs. This way each of the admin areas would have the currently active language set to what is native to that site.

I run quite a number of Textpattern sites and I don’t find it to be a maintenance issue at all. I’ve yet to address a gaping security issue and with the code base being so small, it’s very simple to drop in Textpattern to manage just a few pages if that’s what I need to do.

Thanks for understanding my situation.

Yes, I think it’s best to go with several installs. I’ll just copy-and-paste the templates and other things from one TextPattern to the other. Shouldn’t be no biggie.
