URL only title for Asian text

Hi, sorry if this is not the correct forum to post, but since I do not considered it a ‘how to’ question so I am posting it here.

I am a bit confuse with URL title.

According to URL Title Help:

If you would like to have a specific title attached to the permalink url for your article, enter it here. If it is left blank, the URL title will be generated from the actual article title.
This is particularly useful if the title of your article uses non-ascii characters.

Does it mean it is particularly useful when left blank if non-ascii characters are used? Or the opposite?

I know you can get to a website by typing Chinese characters, say, Yahoo for example, if I type ‘yahoo’ in Chinese it will bring me to cn.yahoo.com. So far Firefox seems the only browser supporting it – I am on Mac, so didn’t test it on IE. However how it be done maybe more complicated than I think, maybe separate domain name in chinese needed too.

I have the title in Chinese, when I click on the view article, in the url bar I can see <http://www.mydomain.com/title_in_chinese_character> but it shows me 404 error. There is path problem that I am still trying to solve, (http://b.zhujili.com//3/西藏 – don’t know why there are two slashes showed up) but the URL Title for non-ascii character seems working on my Safari and Firefox, on Camino it turns to F8 and so on.

My actual article title is in Chinese too, so if I left it blank, it will still generate the non-ascii characters right? But if there are browser compatibility issue, this whole thing wouldn’t work is it not?

It means that the auto-generation can be helpful, so you don’t have to enter the url title yourself. The auto-generation is what happens when you save the article. Your thread from yesterday applies here as well.
