Install problems : Can't connect to database
<p>If anyone can help it would be great. I’m so new to textpattern I can’t even get past the install…..</p>
<p>During setup i’m getting the following</p>
<p>Checking database connection…</p>
<p>Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: ‘user@localhost’ (Using password: YES) in /home/httpd/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/textpattern/setup/index.php on line 188</p>
<p>Can’t connect to database.</p>
<p>I’m using the plesk control panel to create the mysql database and the server is running PHP Version 4.3.2.</p>
<p>I’m unsure how to check the version of mysql. Also the <a href=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Detailed_Installation_Instructions”>Detailed install instructions</a> say “and you’ll need to have set the database login account with “write” privileges.” Not sure how to do this either.</p>
<p>Any pointers?</p>

The MySQL username or password you are using is incorrect.
Your hosting company should provide documentation on how to create a MySQL database and user.

Alex,
Thanks for replying to such a newbie question. I was putting the databasename in the username box and vise-versa. Just goes to show that working while tired is a waste of time. Thanks again.

some servers prefer the database name (ie. mysql.host.com) to localhost. I’m not sure which host you are using but did you try that?
