Does this existst? if_category2
To check if category2 == “essential”.
Or is there a plugin that does this.

Jip, kinda weird there are 2 statements you can use.
<code>if_category or if_article_category</code>

The different tags are for different tag contexts: if_category is for use in a article form, if_article_category in a list.

To be more precise: One checks the category of the page (i.e., via the url), the other checks the category of an article (i.e., an article’s attributes). There’s a difference between the two.
