"X new articles since last visit"

I’m making a site where I collect a quite a lot of RSS-feeds from different sites and output them as articles with the bit_rss plugin. Now, I’d like to output something like “There are X new articles since your last visit” when a visitor returns. How can I do that? I’m not really into PHP, but using chs_cookie would be a good start, wouldn’t it? :S Anyway, I appreciate all tips/suggestions regarding this as it is a quite important function on the site.

Re: "X new articles since last visit"

Since bit_rss relies on SimplePie, I did a quick glance at the Function Reference but didn’t see anything to indicate if a feed item is new.

The reason I looked is I can see a real use for it, maybe we can campaign for such a feature if it doesn’t already exist?

Yes, I also think it would be useful for a lot of things.

Couldn’t the get_date() function be used together with a cookie to accomplish this task?

I also found a plugin for Wordpress that could be of interest: Since last visit
